- If you sit a citizenship test before 15 November 2020, you will require a mark of at least 75 per cent overall to pass the test.
- If you sit a citizenship test on or after 15 November 2020, you will need to answer all 5 questions on Australian values correctly, and you will require a mark of at least 75 per cent overall to pass the test.

Questions in the test are based on the topics:
- Australia and its people
- Australia's democratic beliefs, rights and liberties
- government and the law in Australia
It is highly recommended that you download and read Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond. You can also do the practice test.
The department does not endorse or recommend citizenship test packages from any other individual or organisation that claim will assist you to pass the test.
All citizenship applicants who sit the test on or after 15 November 2020 will sit the updated Australian citizenship test.
Changes to the citizenship test include:
- revised questions
- new questions on Australian values
- a new requirement for all applicants that all 5 questions on Australian values must be answered correctly, with a mark of at least 75 per cent overall to pass the test
